Hello, dear guests of our site! In this article, we will tell you about the requirements and conditions necessary to transport your pet (cat or dog) to the exotic kingdom of Bahrain. Don’t worry, the process is completely doable if you follow all the rules. We will try to explain the main steps and list all the documents that you need to prepare for transporting pets to Bahrain.
Basic requirements for importing animals into Bahrain
1. Microchipping
The first thing you need to do is to get your pet microchipped. The chip must be installed prior to rabies vaccination or on the same day. This requirement must be met to avoid problems when entering Bahrain. Microchipping can be done at any veterinary clinic and is a relatively simple procedure.
2. Veterinary passport and vaccination*
Your pet must have a veterinary passport with notes on all necessary vaccinations, including vaccination against rabies and other viral diseases typical for your animal species. Vaccination against rabies is carried out no earlier than 3 months of age, after which it is necessary to wait for an incubation period of 30 days before the planned transportation to Bahrain. A comprehensive vaccination against viral diseases at the age of 2-3 months will also be required.
3. Rabies antibody test
Bahrain requires a rabies antibody test to prove that your pet is protected. This test must be taken at an accredited laboratory. It confirms the presence of a sufficient level of antibodies to the rabies virus in the pet’s blood, which is a prerequisite for entry.
4. Import Permit
To import an animal to Bahrain, you must first obtain an import permit, which is issued by the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning. To obtain an Import Permit, you need to register on the ministry’s website, fill out a form and attach scans of the required documents (a veterinary passport with vaccinations and rabies antibody test results). After paying the state fee, you can download the received permit.
5. Minimum age of the animal
Bahrain requires the pet to be at least 4 months old. This is due to the vaccination schedule: the minimum age for rabies vaccination is 3 months, and then a 30-day incubation period is required. Accordingly, the minimum age limit for importing dogs and cats into Bahrain is 4 months.
Documents required to fly from Russia to Bahrain
To fly out of Russia and bring your pet into Bahrain, you will need to complete a number of documents, including:
1. Veterinary certificate form No. 1
This certificate confirms the health of the pet and is issued at a state veterinary clinic no earlier than 5 days before departure. On the day of departure, this certificate is exchanged for an international veterinary certificate form No. 5a at the airport.
2. International veterinary certificate form No. 5a
This certificate is necessary to confirm the health of animals during international transport and is mandatory for import into Bahrain.
3. Rabies Antibody Test
In Russia, only one laboratory is accredited to conduct antibody testing, and all of them are located in the Moscow region. If your pet is located far from Moscow, our company can help you organize the test. Contact us via the Contact Us section of our website for more information.
